The Mission

Caritas is an NGO, which is helping to build a stabilized stable society through reducing social differentiation and promoting environmentally friendly use of resources. We will reach our goal through work with children and youngsters.

Activities

Project "Kinderstube"

Caritas day care centers in Ahtme, Narva and Tartu are active since 1997. The aim of ?Kinderstube? is to reduce social risks involved with high risk group children and to keep them from ending up in the streets and giving them a good home & family upbringing (Kinderstube) in order to provide them equal possibilities with children of their age. Everyday actions include taking care of the children (clean body and clothes), solving problem situations (via group activities, individual interaction, contact between supervisor, teacher, home, and social worker) communal activities (cleaning the rooms, preparing food etc.), helping the children with their studies. Volunteer work with the children?s parents is especially important in this project.

Caritas School of Creativity

Was developed in 1999 from the project ?Theatre and Dance at the Service of Social Change? financed by the Estonian Center for Contemporary Arts and the Cultural Fund of Europe. The aim of this project was to discuss and find solutions for the problems of youngsters and children through artistic activities by involving actors and dancers to solving the children?s problems. In Tallinn the Caritas drama school was launched and Tartu provided creative dance courses for the children of the Kinderstube.

Estonian farm teaches Estonian

This is an integration project launched in 1997 with the goal to offer non-Estonian children and youngsters the possibility to practice Estonian during one month of the summer vacation, winter and spring holidays and at the same time to get to know the basis of Estonian culture - Estonian farms. In addition to language practice the project provides a possibility for kids with mainly urban background to spend a part of their summer vacation in the open air.
